Local Theater/Performance Field Trips

The new school season calendars have been posted for many venues and productions around town.   Take a look and see what your family and friends might enjoy attending together this year.  There is nothing quite like live theater, ballet, or musical experiences! We have enjoyed our share of TheatreWorks, Symphony, and Artist Series shows in the past and look forward to more in the future.

If you know of other performances taking place during the school year, please leave a comment and let us know!  When Nutcracker season approaches, I'll post different performance options for that special holiday show.

Learn More About Homeschooling

If you are new to homeschooling or are considering homeschooling (or know someone who is), there is an upcoming opportunity to talk with homeschoolers in our area, ask questions, and get more information on local educational opportunities for homeschoolers.

On July 30, 2016 there will be experienced homeschooling parents waiting and ready to talk with you between 12:00 and 3:00 PM at the West Branch Library.  It is a drop in event, so come when you can and learn more about homeschooling in the greater Jacksonville area.

New Facebook Page

https://www.facebook.com/CCHBlog/

Clay County Homeschooling has a Facebook page!  If you are on Facebook and would like to follow the page, you can find it here:

https://www.facebook.com/CCHBlog/

I hope to include helpful general homeschooling information, local events of interest to homeschoolers, and blog updates on the page.  The page will likely contain more information on local events simply because it is a faster and easier way to share than writing a blog post.  So be sure to "like" and "follow" the page if you are on Facebook.  You are welcome to post relevant information to the page as well.

See you there!

2016-17 School Year

I hope everyone is having a nice summer!  Happy almost new (school) year to many---and for year rounders---happy year, wherever you are!  :-)

Though I have tried to update the static pages on the site in the past, it has been a long time since I've made regular blog posts, and I hope to get back to updating information more regularly this school year.  However, I need help from readers and local businesses and groups that provide services or resources to homeschoolers.  If you would like for something to be posted on the blog or site, please send an email to kimclayhs (at) gmail (dot) com.

Meanwhile, as we are embarking on high school this year in our own home school---I have started a Homeschooling High School page on the site.  While there are many, many online resources and books---this list is a basic starting point.  I hope others may find it helpful.

Speaking of homeschooling and high school, ROCK Solid is sponsoring some high school workshops during their annual hotel show which will be held on August 6th this year.  I received an email yesterday mentioning that the workshops would include: High School 101, Curriculum Choices, Time Management and others.  You can register for workshops and find out more here.  Speakers include Joanne Mastronicola, Amy Clay, and Lindley Rachal.  Sounds like a wonderful opportunity to learn (and shop)!
